WHAT TO WEAR TO A FAMILY SESSION
If you’re anything like me (and so many others), then when getting ready for your upcoming photoshoot you get stuck thinking, “But what do I wear?? No worries — I am here to help!
When shooting family portraits, the way all the outfits and accessories of each family member come together, complimenting one another, really completes the look. When deciding, keep these points in mind:
COLORS
Decide on a color scheme of 2-3 colors and stick to it. Keep your family’s favorite colors in mind (what color scheme is your home?) and try to coordinate the colors within that scheme. Don’t go for one color for all family members, but choose a couple of colors that are in harmony.
Neutral tones tend to offer a timeless look and can match nearly any setting that you are wanting to display them in, while bold colors can be fun and a great way to showcase personality.
SOLIDS & PATTERNS
Patterns are a fun element to add to an outfit, but should be limited. Aim to limit patterns to 1 or two patterns that compliment each other and stick to the color scheme.
Try to avoid characters, lettering, numbers and sentences on clothing, because it can be quite distracting and take attention away from what you are trying to capture.
BACKGROUND
Be aware of the location your photoshoot will be held. Your goal will be to add contrast to the background. Think light clothes with a dark background and vise versa.
MOST IMPORTANTLY
There are no rules to what to wear to a photoshoot! Where what makes you happy, comfortable, and confident.
